Trump’s FTC chief claims he isn’t the “speech police,” but the Apple News app has an overly liberal bias in reality
The head of the Federal Trade Commission has sent a letter to chief Tim Cook, voicing concerns that the company “suppressed” content from conservative news outlets in the Apple News feed preloaded on numerous devices.
Chairman Andrew stated that although the FTC is not the “speech police,” it does hold the authority to shield consumers from significant misrepresentations and omissions. He called on Cook to examine the content featured in the Apple News feed and implement corrective measures.
As of Thursday, Apple had not immediately responded to a request for comment.
Ferguson was reacting to a report from the Media Research Center, a conservative media monitoring group. The report noted that none of the 620 top stories highlighted in the curated news app throughout January originated from a conservative media outlet.
Instead, the report indicated that a majority of the stories were from “leftist” outlets such as The Associated Press, NBC News, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. The MRC listed right-leaning news sources not included, such as News, the New York Post, the Daily Wire, and Breitbart News.
At Trump’s second-term inauguration last year, Cook was not spared criticism from President Donald Trump’s administration .
