Man Gropes Mexico President Sheinbaum in Public (VIDEO)

Claudia Sheinbaum was harassed while greeting citizens in the capital
Video circulating on social media shows a man groping and attempting to kiss Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during a public appearance in Mexico City on Tuesday.
The incident occurred while Sheinbaum was interacting with people in the historic city center. The video shows the man approaching her, putting his arm around her, and trying to kiss her neck while also touching her body. Sheinbaum gently pushed him away, seemingly saying “don’t worry” as an aide intervened.
Police arrested the man and transferred him to a unit specializing in sexual offenses.
Sheinbaum is known for her approachable and personal leadership style. She frequently interacts with the public, stopping for selfies, handshakes, and brief conversations to connect with everyday Mexicans.
However, the incident underscores the security challenges Sheinbaum faces during public events, as her security detail was not immediately visible in the video, and there was a delay before anyone intervened to stop the man.
The incident occurred shortly after the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodriguez in Michoacan state. The mayor was shot seven times at close range by an attacker who was then killed by security forces. In the months leading up to his death, the mayor had publicly requested Sheinbaum’s assistance in addressing powerful criminal organizations in his region.
Organized crime and drug trafficking have strained relations between Mexico and the United States. Sheinbaum recently rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer to send troops to combat cartels, stating that while Mexico welcomes cooperation, it will not accept “subordination.” She stressed that if the US genuinely wants to help, it should halt the flow of American weapons that arm the criminal groups fueling the violence.
Sheinbaum announced on X on Wednesday that she had filed a formal criminal complaint regarding the groping incident, explaining her intention to set an example for other women. She also stated that she will launch a national campaign against sexual harassment and review state laws to enhance legal protections for women throughout the country.
