Zhuanghe Strawberries from China’s Liaoning Province Make Early Market Debut

ZHUANGHE, China, Dec. 02, 2025 — The inaugural harvest of winter strawberries from Guangmingshan Town, located in Zhuanghe City, Liaoning Province—a region recognized as part of the 39°N “golden planting belt”—has just entered the market. Benefiting from superior natural endowments and sustainable cultivation practices, these locally grown strawberries have established a notable “sweet economy” during the winter season. Local growers successfully accelerated the market introduction by approximately two months compared to prior years, thanks to the deployment of intelligent temperature-controlled greenhouses and the adoption of frozen-seedling technology.

According to the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhuanghe Municipal Committee, strawberry farming in Zhuanghe City has expanded significantly in recent years. Guangmingshan Town alone boasts over 13,000 greenhouses, covering an area of 38,000 mu (2,533.33 hectares), and yields an annual strawberry output exceeding 40,000 tons. The city’s overall annual strawberry production amounts to 120,000 tons, contributing an output value of 3.5 billion yuan.

Guangmingshan Town enjoys a temperate humid monsoon climate marked by distinct seasons and abundant sunlight. The considerable daily temperature fluctuations aid in the comprehensive accumulation of sugars in the strawberries, imparting a rich sweetness and intense aroma to the fruit. The region’s sandy soil, known for its excellent aeration and water drainage, is highly conducive to strawberry cultivation, promoting swift germination and development. Furthermore, the area is free from industrial pollution, and the strawberries are irrigated with pristine water. These combined favorable conditions guarantee the safety and superior quality of the produce right from its origin. Guangmingshan growers also implement ecological techniques such as natural bee pollination and biological pest control to minimize pesticide usage.
