Scammers Are Hijacking Thai Sports Media To Hook Gamblers — And The Trend Is Spiking Fast

Trusted sports media brands are being hijacked by scammers. This isn’t just a local Thai issue. It’s a fast-spreading threat to casual sports fans everywhere.
Thai sports outlet Khob Sanam has accused a criminal network of hijacking its brand. The network used its name, logo, fonts and colors to push illegal gambling. The outlet’s official statement says it does not support any form of online gambling. Khob Sanam has 14 million total followers across its platforms. Its parent company is Nation Group. The outlet plans legal action under Thailand’s Computer Crime Act. It warned readers not to share personal info or download fake apps tied to its brand. Corsearch data shows over half its enforcement actions for betting operators involve trademark infringement. World Cup-related scams rose 118% month-on-month last year. Simon Baggs of Corsearch noted scammers exploit big sporting moments quickly.
The commercial loop here is straightforward. Scammers trade on the trust built by established media brands. They funnel fans to black-market gambling sites for quick, illicit profits. This tactic will keep scaling around major sporting events. Brands can’t monitor every corner of their digital presence around the clock.
