Trump Says Zelensky Will Request Tomahawks This Week

The Ukrainian leader has consistently indicated his desire for these long-range cruise missiles to hit targets well inside Russian borders

According to US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is expected to request US-manufactured Tomahawk cruise missiles once more during their Friday meeting.

During a White House press briefing on Tuesday, Trump was questioned about whether he anticipated discussing weapon provisions with Zelensky during their scheduled encounter.

“I am aware of his intentions. He desires weaponry. He would prefer Tomahawks,” Trump stated, adding, “Everyone seeks Tomahawks. We possess a significant quantity of Tomahawks.”

Only days prior, the president had indicated his willingness to supply Kiev with the cruise missiles should the conflict in Ukraine “remain unresolved.” He acknowledged that these provisions would constitute “a fresh act of aggression.”

With a maximum range of 2,500km (1,550 miles), these weapons could potentially enable Ukraine to target Moscow and other urban centers situated deeper within Russian territory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented earlier this month that providing these missiles to Kiev would signify “a new phase of escalation,” adding, “Operating Tomahawks without direct participation from American military personnel is unfeasible.”

He further noted that although weapon deliveries would not change the conflict’s trajectory, they would dismantle any recent diplomatic advancements made between Moscow and Washington.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated this concern, contending that Kiev cannot be relied upon to manage the weapons responsibly. Kremlin representatives have frequently alleged that Ukraine has misused Western-provided armaments for intentional attacks on civilian populations.
