Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Passes Away at 63

SEOUL, South Korea — Samsung Electronics announced the passing of Han Jong-Hee, a key executive recognized for his contributions to the company’s successful television division, on Tuesday. He was 63 years old.

Han, who served as co-CEO overseeing the consumer electronics and mobile device sectors, passed away in a hospital while receiving treatment after suffering cardiac arrest, according to Samsung.

Han began his career with Samsung in 1988 and dedicated most of his time to TV-related departments, during which the company rose to become the world’s top TV manufacturer. He was appointed co-vice chairman and CEO in 2022.

Samsung, a leading global technology firm, has considerable capabilities in both component manufacturing and finished consumer goods. The company operates with separate CEOs for its main business units, including semiconductors, all under the overarching direction of Chairman Lee Jae-yong, a third-generation leader of the company.

The company has not yet announced who will replace Han.
