Patriots Captain Jabrill Peppers Faces Assault, Strangulation, and Drug Charges
BRAINTREE, Mass. — Jabrill Peppers, captain of the New England Patriots, was apprehended over the weekend and faces charges of assault, strangulation, and other offenses. These charges stem from an incident at a residence, according to a statement released by the police on Monday.
Peppers, 29 years old, is scheduled to appear in Quincy District Court on Monday to address the charges, which also include assault and battery using a dangerous weapon and possession of a Class “B” substance, believed to be cocaine. This information was revealed in a police press release.
His arrest took place early Saturday morning.
According to Braintree police, they were called to a home to investigate a physical altercation involving two individuals. One person received medical attention at the residence, they stated.
It remains unclear whether Peppers has secured legal representation for these charges. An attempt to locate a phone number for him was unsuccessful.
Coach Jerod Mayo, during a press conference on Monday, indicated that the team is still gathering details about Peppers’ arrest and will make decisions based on the information obtained. The situation has been discussed with the team, and for the time being, Peppers will be allowed access to the Patriots’ facilities.
“We don’t have enough information to say he shouldn’t be in the building,” Mayo stated.
Peppers, a safety player in his third season with the team, signed a contract extension over the summer. He was initially selected by Cleveland in the 2017 NFL Draft and spent two seasons with the Browns before joining the New York Giants for three seasons.
Peppers, who is currently dealing with a shoulder injury, was unable to participate in the Patriots’ game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
