Los Angeles Region Shaken by Earthquake
A noticeable earthquake shook the Los Angeles area early Thursday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 for the quake, which originated 4 miles (7 kilometers) north of Malibu.
The USGS reported the temblor occurred roughly 7 miles (11 kilometers) beneath the surface. The tremor was perceptible as far away as 45 miles (72 kilometers) in Orange County.
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services is diligently monitoring the earthquake and investigating potential damage. A string of quakes has struck the region this year. A 4.4 magnitude earthquake in August was felt from the all the way to San Diego, causing swaying buildings, rattling dishes, and triggering car alarms.
