Authorities apprehended a man on suspicion of arson Thursday afternoon in Woodland Hills, near the scene of the Kenneth Fire, which ignited earlier that day.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Public Information Officer tweeted: “At 4:32 p.m., a call reported a possible arson suspect on the 21700 block of Ybarra Road. A male reported the suspect was ‘attempting to light a fire.’ The suspect is in custody and was taken to Topanga Station.”

Ybarra Road is in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, near the west San Fernando Valley, where the Kenneth Fire continues to burn.

According to a local news outlet, bystanders detained the suspect before police arrival.

“The incident happened here, and roughly 20 to 30 minutes later, citizens apprehended a suspect,” Sean Dinse of the LAPD’s Topanga Division told KTLA.

In a social media update, the LAPD PIO stated they couldn’t confirm a link between the arrested individual and the Kenneth Fire.

The LAPD offered no further information when contacted by TIME.

In a statement Thursday evening, Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said the Kenneth Fire “shows we are absolutely not out of this extreme weather event.”

Fires in Los Angeles County have claimed at least 10 lives, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, with officials cautioning the final death toll is uncertain until damaged areas are safe to access.

The Kenneth Fire rapidly expanded to 1,000 acres within hours. Currently, the blaze covers 960 acres and is 35% contained. Evacuation warnings remain in effect from Vanowen south to Burbank Boulevard and County Lane Road east to E. Valley Circle Boulevard, though mandatory orders have been lifted.

However, conditions may change quickly due to “challenging terrain and persistent winds hindering suppression efforts,” according to officials. Residents are urged to remain alert.
