XRP’s 19% Surge: Ripple’s XRPL Amendments and the Crypto Chessboard

XRP’s recent 19% price surge isn’t just a random market blip. It’s intertwined with Ripple’s efforts to advance two key amendments on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). These amendments, XLS-65 and XLS-66, aim to introduce native vaults and lending infrastructure, but they face a steep climb in validator support.

First, the price jump. XRP traded near $1.38 after a 24-hour gain of 19%, riding the broader crypto market rally. Bitcoin crossing $78,000 also boosted sentiment. But beyond market waves, Ripple’s backing of XLS-65 and XLS-66 is pivotal. XLS-65, the Single Asset Vault amendment, has 40% validator support. XLS-66, the Lending Protocol amendment, has over 37%. Both need more than 80% support from trusted validators for two consecutive weeks to activate. That means at least 28 of 35 votes.

Then there are external factors. President Trump’s call for the CLARITY Act and the U.S. Treasury’s debt buybacks also fueled risk assets. But XRP’s rally isn’t solely due to these. The XRPL amendments add another layer. XLS-65 would let users pool assets like XRP or RLUSD into on-ledger structures, supplying liquidity to other apps. XLS-66 would enable fixed-term uncollateralized loans, with institutions handling credit checks off-chain while the ledger manages terms and repayments.

Clearpool and Cicada’s collaboration on an RLUSD lending platform adds context. Clearpool has processed over $930 million in institutional loans, and Cicada brings underwriting experience. But mainnet launch depends on XLS-65 and XLS-66 clearing the validator hurdle. The commercial potential is there, but the path to activation is rocky.

In the end, XRP’s price movement is a blend of market trends and Ripple’s strategic pushes. The real test lies in whether validators will unite behind these amendments. Until then, the industry watches to see if the 80% threshold can be crossed, which could reshape institutional finance on XRPL.
