The company stated it could identify security loopholes that had remained undetected for decades, even by human experts and automated tools.

Due to these capabilities, Anthropic opted against a public release of Mythos. Instead, it initiated a private program named “Glasswing,” providing a version of the model to a select group of companies, including Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia, to aid in enhancing their security infrastructure.

Anthropic subsequently proposed extending this access to approximately 70 additional organizations, which would increase the total number of companies utilizing Mythos to around 120. This expansion plan has now encountered opposition from the White House.

White House Raises Security Concerns

A White House official informed Bloomberg News that members of the Trump administration have communicated to Anthropic their disapproval of the expansion plan. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

A primary concern revolves around computing capacity. U.S. officials are apprehensive that granting Mythos access to more companies could diminish the government’s own capacity to utilize the technology effectively, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A White House official told the Journal that the administration is working to strike a balance between innovation and security, ensuring that AI models are deployed safely.

This opposition introduces an additional layer of strain to an already tense relationship between the Trump administration and Anthropic. In February, President Trump directed the U.S. government to cease using Anthropic’s technology after Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth identified the company as a national security supply chain risk.
