The $1.25 Cliff: Why XRP’s Technical Bleed Matters More Than Its Institutional Shiny Objects

(SeaPRwire) – By: Lucas Caldwell
XRP just broke its spine. The rising trendline that propped up the August-to-September rally is gone. Price sits at $1.28, hovering dangerously close to the $1.251 support floor. This isn’t a wobble. It is a structural break. The narrative in the crypto Twitter trenches is split between “accumulation” and “capitulation,” but the chart doesn’t lie. It shows a clean failure of momentum. We are watching a token that promised to be the institutional bridge get sold off into spot ETF inflows that barely dent the macro trend. The disconnect between the story being sold and the price action being delivered is the core anxiety here.
Let’s dehydrate the raw numbers before we judge. On the daily Binance chart, XRP opened at $1.294 and slid to a low of $1.272. It is down roughly 1.1% at the time of writing. The RSI sits at 37.38. That is close to oversold, but not there yet. The MACD is negative, sitting near -0.0357, below its signal line. Sellers hold the baton. The most critical level is $1.251. That was resistance earlier this year, now flipped into demand. If a daily close pierces that level, $1.20 is next. Then $1.10-$1.15. A hold means a bounce toward $1.35-$1.40 is the only path back to sanity.
Now look at the underlying flow. U.S. spot XRP ETFs took in about $3.55 million on Oct. 23. Franklin Templeton’s XRPZ led that day. Total assets across these funds stand near $1.49 billion. But context matters. That inflow broke a week of outflows. Before that, the funds saw a 13-week run of positive flows end with roughly $2 million leaving. Cumulative inflows since launch are around $1.8 billion. Is $3.55 million enough to stop a price falling from $1.60? In a thin liquidity environment, no. It is a drop in the bucket against the broader crypto rotation out of altcoins.
The network itself tells a strange story. The XRP Ledger processed 3.6 million transactions in 24 hours. Active addresses hit roughly 43,400. DeFi TVL is near $38.8 million. But stablecoin supply on the ledger fell 5.6% over seven days to $1.06 billion. DEX volume is declining. Tracked exchange wallets lost about 16.5 million XRP over the last week to Oct. 23. Coins aren’t rushing to exchanges to be sold. They are being moved, perhaps to cold storage or for new infrastructure. Ripple is pushing lending upgrades, like LendingProtocolV1_1, which adds closed-ended vaults. These features aim to create utility, but they require validator support that hasn’t fully materialized for the wider upgrade. The tech is there; the adoption curve is still flatlining.
This is a waiting game. Analyst Ash Crypto argues XRP has been stuck below resistance for months and claims a break opens the door to $2. That is a bullish thesis based on a single level. The market, however, is respecting the lower structure. If $1.251 holds, we test $1.35. If it breaks, we head to $1.10. The institutional interest via ETFs and partnerships like Meritz Securities and DriveWealth provides a floor, but it hasn’t provided fuel yet. The supply chain of value is stuck in a middle block. No amount of PR about real-world asset swaps changes the fact that price is trending down. The next move will be defined by whether $1.251 acts as a hard base or a thin ice. Watch that daily close. Everything else is noise until that level is respected or violated.
