Metirionic Achieves Precision Bluetooth Channel Sounding Through Synaptics’ Industry-Leading Veros™ Intelligent Connectivity Solutions
MARS provides both distance and angle measurements using Synaptics® Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Combo Solutions, enabling precise ranging and direction capabilities for applications like secure access, navigation, tracking, and services based on proximity.
MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 28, 2025 — Metirionic GmbH, a prominent provider of wireless ranging and positioning technologies, today announced the successful integration of its Metirionic Advanced Ranging Stack (MARS) across Synaptics’ Bluetooth product line, which supports Channel Sounding. This integration was showcased at Synaptics® Tech Day 2025 earlier this month. Fully compliant with Bluetooth Core Specification 6.1, the MARS implementation goes beyond basic ranging to offer true 3D localization, combining distance and angle estimation for accurate spatial awareness. Optimized for Android mobile devices and Synaptics Astra™ Embedded Linux IoT systems, this solution operates on Synaptics’ Veros™ Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo SoCs to deliver highly accurate ranging and positioning. By combining precise distance measurements with robust mitigation of multipath interference and innovative angle estimation for direction, the MARS-powered implementation sets a new standard for Bluetooth-based location technologies, enabling secure access, seamless indoor navigation, and various proximity-based services.
The synergy of Synaptics’ high-performance Bluetooth hardware and Metirionic’s MARS stack uniquely supports both mobile and embedded platforms. Across Synaptics’ entire portfolio, Channel Impulse Response (CIR) data extends Channel Sounding beyond traditional Phase-Based Ranging (PBR) and Round-Trip Time (RTT) techniques. This offers deeper insights into signal behavior, allowing developers to choose the most suitable algorithms and filters for their specific applications. Simultaneously, MARS directly derives angle estimation from the channel sounding process, a complementary advancement that overcomes previous limitations in direction-finding and adds directional awareness to precise ranging. This adaptable architecture also allows developers to balance latency, accuracy, and complexity for a wide range of use cases. On more advanced systems, these capabilities can be further enhanced to achieve even greater accuracy and robustness, while still scaling efficiently for devices with limited resources.
Collectively, these capabilities unlock practical applications such as secure entry in industrial settings, guiding visitors through intricate office buildings, reliable asset tracking and Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) in industrial environments, and proximity-based services like streaming music to a speaker or automatically disarming an alarm when a user approaches.
By combining standards-based Bluetooth Channel Sounding with these advanced enhancements, the solution establishes a future-proof foundation for location-aware services. Developers gain not only precise ranging and direction but also the flexibility to adapt implementations across diverse platforms, from high-end smartphones and industrial IoT gateways to embedded devices with stricter resource limitations.
“We are collaborating with Metirionic to facilitate the deployment of Bluetooth Channel Sounding across both mobile and embedded platforms,” stated Jason Hillyard, Director, Bluetooth Products and Technology, Synaptics. “By integrating our high-performance Veros Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 combo SoCs with MARS, we are expanding into new categories of applications where precise distance, direction, and spatial awareness are critical, ranging from smartphones to industrial IoT systems. This strategic partnership reinforces Synaptics’ leadership in Bluetooth innovation and highlights the strength of our established ecosystem, where partners provide valuable solutions.”
For customers, this translates into a new generation of Bluetooth experiences that are seamless, secure, and context-aware across various devices and environments.
“Our collaboration with Synaptics illustrates how standards-based Bluetooth Channel Sounding can be enhanced with innovative features to achieve tangible real-world impact,” said Dr. Attila Römer, Managing Director at Metirionic. “By integrating MARS across Synaptics’ Bluetooth solutions and incorporating pre-standard advancements such as inline PCT, we are empowering developers to deliver superior accuracy, reduced latency, and more robust performance in location-aware solutions, from industrial asset tracking to context-aware consumer experiences and next-generation mobile devices.”
Demonstration and Availability
At Synaptics’ Tech Day 2025 earlier this month, Metirionic demonstrated the solution using a smartphone that automatically disarmed an alarm when in close proximity. This showcased how Bluetooth Channel Sounding facilitates seamless, secure user experiences such as access control and context-aware interactions. A video of the demonstration is available here .
MARS is currently available on Synaptics’ connectivity and processing technology, offering developers a straightforward path to implement advanced Bluetooth Channel Sounding. Simultaneously, ongoing engagements with select partners for mobile devices indicate momentum towards wider adoption. For more details, visit or .
