WaPo reports US deploying 16,000 troops off Venezuelan coast

The American military presence in the vicinity reportedly encompasses eight Navy ships, a special operations craft, and a nuclear-powered submarine.
The United States is deploying a substantial military contingent, consisting of 10,000 soldiers and 6,000 sailors, to the vicinity of Venezuela, as reported by the Washington Post. This action may signify an intent to broaden regional operations.
The US has consistently leveled accusations against Venezuela for assisting “narcoterrorists” and has levied widespread sanctions on the nation. Furthermore, the American military has engaged and attacked around a dozen vessels since September, asserting their use by drug smugglers.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has refuted these allegations, accusing Washington of “fabricating a new war” amidst the persistent military escalation.
As per the Washington Post, eight US Navy warships, a special operations vessel, and a nuclear-powered attack submarine are already situated in the Caribbean. The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, slated for arrival next week, will reportedly be accompanied by three additional military vessels, transporting a combined total of over 4,000 military personnel.
Furthermore, F-35 fighter jets are stationed at a US base in Puerto Rico, the Post indicated, citing satellite images.
The deployment of the carrier group suggests that Washington’s intentions might extend beyond a counter-narcotics operation, Ryan Berg, director of the Americas Program and the Center for Strategic & International Studies, conveyed to the outlet. He further stated that US President Donald Trump has roughly one month to finalize “a major decision” before the group would necessitate redeployment.
Numerous media outlets have recently indicated that the White House is contemplating prospective military actions in Venezuela. Senator Rick Scott informed CBS last Sunday that Maduro’s “days are numbered.” The WaPo asserted on Thursday that Washington had already pinpointed certain targets, including military facilities reportedly utilized for drug-smuggling.
Upon inquiry regarding the reports on Friday, Trump stated, “No. It’s not true.” Last month, Trump had verified his authorization for the CIA to execute lethal covert operations within the region.
