Trump Unharmed After Shots Fired at Pennsylvania Rally
BUTLER, Pa.—Donald Trump’s campaign issued a statement confirming that he is “fine” after being rapidly escorted off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following apparent gunshots heard within the crowd.
“President Trump extends his gratitude to law enforcement and first responders for their swift action in response to this heinous incident,” stated spokesman Steven Cheung. “He is in good condition and is undergoing a checkup at a local medical facility. Further details will be provided as they become available.”
The Secret Service confirmed in a statement that “the former President is safe.”
The former president, who is the presumptive Republican nominee, was showcasing a chart displaying border crossing statistics during his final rally before the Republican National Convention begins on Monday when a series of bangs reverberated through the audience. Trump was observed reaching towards his neck with his right hand. There appeared to be blood on his face.
He quickly moved behind the riser as agents from his protective detail surged onto the stage, accompanied by screams from the crowd of several thousand people. The bangs continued as agents attended to him on stage.
The crowd erupted in cheers as he stood back up and raised his fist.
His motorcade has since departed the venue. His current condition is not immediately known.
Police commenced the evacuation of the fairgrounds shortly after Trump left the stage, classifying the location as a crime scene, according to local officers.
The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden has been informed of the incident.
Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., posted a photograph on X depicting Trump with his fist raised and blood on his face, standing in front of an American flag, along with the caption: “He’ll never stop fighting to Save America.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson posted on X that he was offering prayers for Trump.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, issued a statement on X indicating that he had been briefed on the situation and that Pennsylvania state police were present at the rally site.
“Violence directed at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable. It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States,” he asserted.
