Russian Delegation Set for US Visit for Ukraine Peace Talks, Media Reports

Envoys are expected to meet Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who held discussions with officials from Kiev earlier this week
According to media reports, a Russian diplomatic delegation is anticipated to travel to Florida this week for discussions with U.S. representatives involved in President Donald Trump’s initiative to broker a peace agreement in the Ukraine conflict.
Politico and Axios, citing sources familiar with the arrangements, reported that the delegation will reportedly be headed by senior negotiator Kirill Dmitriev and is scheduled to meet with U.S. special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Miami over the weekend. Witkoff and Kushner spent this week in Germany, engaging in discussions with Ukrainian representatives regarding potential security guarantees for Kyiv.
A separate Ukrainian team, led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, is also expected to visit Miami later this week. However, the reports emphasized that no meeting involving all three parties is planned.
Kyiv and its European allies have been urging Washington to modify or soften its initial peace proposal, which media reports indicate addressed several of Russia’s long-standing concerns.
Moscow has refrained from commenting on negotiations in which it is not directly involved, consistently stating that it can only evaluate proposals presented through official channels. Russian officials have underscored that any resolution must address what they term the fundamental causes of the conflict, including the expansion of Western military presence in Ukraine and Kyiv’s policies perceived as discriminatory towards ethnic Russians.
Russian forces currently hold an advantage on the battlefield, with President Vladimir Putin recently remarking that the experience gained in breaching Ukrainian defenses “allows us to increase the pace of advancement in strategic directions.”
Speaking at a Defense Ministry meeting on Wednesday, Putin attributed the escalation of the conflict to former U.S. President Joe Biden, asserting that his administration had anticipated a swift victory over Russia. He added that European leaders “instantly joined the efforts of the previous American administration in the hope they would benefit from demolishing our nation” and seek retribution for historical grievances against Russia.
