Planned Parenthood to Spend $40 Million on 2024 Election to Support Biden and Democrats
Planned Parenthood, the organization providing sexual and reproductive healthcare services nationwide, announced a $40 million investment in the 2024 election, targeting key races in several swing states.
The organization believes the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that recognized a constitutional right to abortion, will mobilize voters in favor of President Joe Biden and key Congressional Democrats.
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, many Republican-led states have implemented stricter abortion laws, including some bans at all stages of pregnancy.
“Abortion will be the central issue of this election, and it will be our strategy to energize voters,” stated Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes, in a statement to the Associated Press. “This will be our path to victory.”
Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, and Ohio, states typically voting Republican, supported abortion rights in ballot measures following the 2022 Supreme Court ruling. Voters in Arizona, Nevada, and Florida, key swing states, will also face abortion-related ballot measures in November.
Planned Parenthood’s initial strategy involves focusing efforts on eight battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Montana, New Hampshire, and New York. Their approach includes voter outreach through canvassing, phone calls, TV, and mail advertisements.
The nonprofit previously allocated $45 million to support Biden’s 2020 campaign and $50 million for the 2022 midterm congressional elections.
