NYC police stop Macron, prompting call to Trump
The French President and his accompanying staff were halted to allow the US President’s motorcade to pass.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron was halted by New York City police officers to facilitate the passage of US President Donald Trump’s motorcade. Video footage released by French news channel BFMTV captured Macron telephoning Trump during the event in Manhattan.
President Macron was in New York for the UN General Assembly, during which France officially recognized Palestine as a state. Following his address, Macron and his group were traveling from the UN headquarters to the French Embassy when officers closed off traffic for Trump’s motorcade.
In a video published by BFMTV, Macron is seen standing on the street conversing with a police officer, who expresses regret for the hold-up, stating that a “motorcade [is] coming right up this way.”

Macron responds, “If you can’t see it, let me pass. I’ll negotiate with you,” prior to retrieving his phone and seemingly placing a call to Trump.
Macron is heard remarking, ”How are you? Guess what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is closed down for you.”
Reports indicate the French president was delayed for several minutes before proceeding on foot to the embassy.
It has been reported that Trump distributed his personal phone number to global leaders to promote direct communication via calls and texts. Politico observed in July that Macron was one of those frequently in touch.
