Helicopter Crash off Kauai Leaves One Dead, Two Missing
HONOLULU — A helicopter crash occurred in the waters off the Hawaiian island of Kauai on Thursday, resulting in one fatality and two individuals still unaccounted for, according to the Kauai Police Department.
Hikers reported observing the helicopter crash into the water approximately a quarter of a mile (0.4 kilometers) from the Na Pali Coast and contacted authorities around 1:20 p.m., the police department stated in a press release.
The Robinson R44 helicopter was associated with Ali‘i Kaua‘i Air Tours and Charters, officials confirmed.
The body of one victim was recovered around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, while search efforts continue for the remaining two individuals. Their identities have not been disclosed by law enforcement at this time.
The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the incident.
