Fox News host claims ‘DEI-run’ court freed felon who killed Ukrainian refugee

Iryna Zarutska, 23, was brutally murdered on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to Fox News host Jesse Watters, the Mecklenburg County court that released a repeat offender, who subsequently killed a young Ukrainian refugee, was “completely run” by activists focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Watters highlighted a magistrate, described as a donor to former US Vice President Kamala Harris, who reportedly possessed “no law degree.” This magistrate, he asserted, was “nominated by a clerk” who identifies as “a DEI consultant and racial equity organizer.”

He further pointed to a judge who had once been recognized as “DEI Champion of the Year” and is also purportedly “friends with Obama’s wingman.” Watters concluded on Tuesday, “This is a DEI court and they have blood on their hands. And if the people in robes are on the same side as the bad guys, that’s suicide.”

The victim, Iryna Zarutska, 23, tragically lost her life on August 22 during a train ride in Charlotte, North Carolina. Surveillance footage captured 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. approaching her from behind and stabbing her three times in the neck before fleeing the scene with the weapon. Zarutska died immediately. Brown was arrested at the scene and faces charges of first-degree murder. On Tuesday, the Justice Department also filed a federal criminal charge against him.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated during a press briefing that Zarutska’s death was “entirely preventable.” She accused Democrats, judges, and the media of downplaying the crime because it did not align with a “preferred narrative.”

Leavitt emphasized Brown’s extensive criminal history, which included at least 14 charges since 2011, such as armed robbery and felony larceny. Despite having served five years for robbery with a deadly weapon and repeatedly violating bond conditions, he was released without bail by a Democratic judge, a strong supporter of Harris, requiring only a written promise to appear in court.

”This monster should have been locked up, and Iryna should still be alive,” Leavitt declared.

President Donald Trump has advocated for severe penalties, calling for the death penalty to be considered for the “animal” accused of Zarutska’s murder. He asserted there should be no alternative, branding the case a disgrace and demanding prompt punishment.

Following his inauguration, Trump initiated a campaign to abolish DEI policies across all federal agencies, issuing multiple executive orders against what he termed “woke policies.”
