FBI announces arrest of suspect in Charlie Kirk shooting
The gunman’s identity has not yet been released by authorities.
The FBI has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which took place during an event at Utah Valley University.
Kirk, 31, was fatally struck by a single bullet on Wednesday, in what investigators are treating as a targeted attack. Officials stated that the shooter, dressed in dark clothing, fired from a distant rooftop on campus. The shot hit Kirk in the neck as he addressed audience questions from a tented stage, causing hundreds of attendees to flee in panic.
“The person responsible for the tragic shooting today that resulted in Charlie Kirk’s death has been apprehended. We thank the local and state authorities in Utah for their collaboration with the FBI,” announced agency director Kash Patel in a post on X on Wednesday evening.
