STAR Systems International Implements Multi-Lane Fast Flow in Malaysia

SINGAPORE, Oct. 07, 2025 — STAR Systems International, a global innovator in tolling technology, proudly announces the successful completion of a Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) pilot project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also known as Multi-Lane Free Flow or Open Road Tolling (ORT), this achievement marks a significant advancement for the region’s tolling infrastructure, which previously relied on traditional plaza/barrier-based tolling methods. The project is poised to facilitate broader MLFF adoption across Southeast Asia, thus promoting more streamlined transportation networks.

Key to this transformation are STAR Systems’ Titan Pro reader and Avior antenna, both high-performance products specifically engineered for demanding tolling environments. The Titan Pro delivers exceptional read performance combined with unmatched flexibility and customization, allowing effortless integration with existing tolling infrastructures, including the capability to emulate legacy readers. When paired with the Avior antenna’s robust power and precise radiation patterns, the system establishes accurate and reliable read zones, perfectly suited for high-speed, multi-lane scenarios. Together, they achieve superior performance and accuracy, demonstrating remarkable precision under live traffic conditions.

The project was executed in partnership with Touch ‘n Go, a fintech company specializing in cashless payments, and SIDRA, an emerging provider of modern tolling systems. SIDRA’s PARSEC lane control system is crucial for integrating STAR Systems’ next-generation tolling technology with other sensors like Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and 3D LiDAR sensors. The system has been operating fully autonomously alongside an existing gated toll gantry, allowing for direct validation against actual tolling data. It manages a substantial volume of daily traffic, achieving 100% vehicle detection and reading over 99.98% of existing legacy toll tags.

“The Titan Pro and Avior are purposefully designed for multi-lane fast flow applications where vehicles are moving at high-speeds and extreme accuracy is required,” stated Stephen Lockhart, CTO of STAR Systems International. He added, “SIDRA’s PARSEC brings out the maximum performance in our technology and acts as a glue that tightly integrates every component into a single, highly responsive tolling ecosystem.”

This successful collaboration underscores the effectiveness of flexible, high-precision tolling technology in real-world MLFF implementations. By combining STAR Systems’ advanced Titan Pro reader, Avior antenna, and SIDRA’s PARSEC lane control system, this MLFF project establishes a new standard for tolling systems in the region. It demonstrates how existing systems can be modernized without extensive disruption, paving the way for a smarter, faster, and more efficient future for tolling infrastructure.
