Jincheng Forges Innovative Wellness Tourism Model by Revitalizing Ancient Villages
JINCHENG, China, Oct. 17, 2025 — Jincheng city strategically utilized its historic villages and castles as central platforms to invigorate cultural tourism during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in early October. The Jincheng Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism highlighted that these multidimensional innovations encompassed immersive “red tourism” experiences, a wide range of festive activities for all ages, active preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and digitally enhanced museum exhibitions. These endeavors have not only revitalized the holiday tourism sector but also underscore Jincheng’s ongoing commitment to developing its wellness tourism industry through a synergistic approach, where cultural heritage informs tourism offerings and tourism, in turn, fosters cultural dynamism.
The Jincheng Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism reported that, in recent years, Jincheng has progressively transformed its rural villages into scenic attractions, leveraging its rich historical heritage and distinctive ancient village assets. To date, 18 villages throughout the city have achieved A-level scenic area status, creating a network of unique destinations that harmoniously combine cultural allure, community vibrancy, and health-focused amenities.
For instance, the “Huangcheng Five Villages” in Beiliu Town exemplify this strategy, where the integration of key assets like the Royal Prime Minister’s Palace and Guoyu Ancient City has forged a diverse industrial framework. This framework comprises 5A and 4A-level scenic areas, luxury hotels, boutique guesthouses, and the Taiyue Spirit Practice Center, providing employment for more than 3,000 local inhabitants. This undertaking has cultivated a beneficial cycle encompassing cultural conservation, economic resurgence, and improved local incomes. Similarly, Yuchi Village in Qinshui County has leveraged the literary legacy of writer Zhao Shuli and its natural environment to transform into a wellness-focused village, blending cultural immersion with health-promoting activities. Lianghu Village in Gaoping City, known for its meticulously preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture and intangible cultural heritage, is advancing a comprehensive integration of “ancient villages + wellness + experiential education.” Meanwhile, Suzhuang Village, identified as the “Town of Weddings,” has restored traditional courtyards to establish a tourism offering centered on matrimonial customs, emerging as a significant feature of the “Hundred Villages and Hundred Courtyards” initiative.
These extensive revitalization endeavors not only inject renewed vitality into historical and cultural legacies but also, by employing differentiated development strategies uniquely adapted to each village, construct a novel cultural tourism and wellness ecosystem. This comprehensive ecosystem seamlessly blends cultural engagement, ecological recreation, and health maintenance, presenting an exemplary “Jincheng model” for the enduring rejuvenation of traditional villages.
