Guangxi’s Guigang City, Gangnan District, Aims to Establish ASEAN-Facing Wood-Based Smart Home Industry Hub
GUIGANG, China, Oct. 24, 2025 — Gangnan District of Guigang City, Guangxi, recently finalized a cooperation agreement with Shandong Jinyuan Wood Industry Co., Ltd. at the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo. The agreement outlines plans to establish a production line and associated facilities capable of producing 40 million impregnated papers and 12 million decorative panels annually, incorporating advanced production and testing technologies. The project is projected to generate approximately 680 million yuan in annual revenue upon completion.
This partnership signifies a key advancement for Gangnan District in its efforts to promote the high-quality development of its wood industry cluster. Benefiting from its strategic location near the ASEAN economic zone, the district acts as a vital link to the Southeast Asian market and possesses abundant forest resources. In recent years, Gangnan District has capitalized on opportunities like the construction of the Western Land-Sea Corridor and the Pinglu Canal, leveraging Guigang’s inland river hub and the Xijiang Golden Waterway to reduce overall costs and expand into the ASEAN market. This has facilitated the wood industry’s shift from basic “wood panel manufacturing” to higher-value “customized home furnishing.” Gangnan District now boasts a comprehensive industrial chain, spanning from veneer production to complete home customization. In 2024, the district’s output of manufactured wood panels exceeded 15 million cubic meters, representing about one-fourth of Guangxi’s total production.
Since 2006, the number of wood industry businesses in Gangnan District has increased from over 30 to more than 1,400, with over 300 classified as enterprises above the designated size. Gangnan Wood Industry Industrial Park has become a major production center for China’s top ten well-known wood panel brands, producing over 10 million cubic meters of high-quality furniture and home furnishing panels annually. These products encompass more than ten categories, including furniture panels, wall panels, and wood flooring. Wood processing has become a traditional, advantageous, and distinctive industry in the region.
Regarding the industry’s intelligent transformation, Gangnan District has actively encouraged the deep integration of artificial intelligence with traditional manufacturing, incorporating AI technology into critical processes such as quality control and processing. This has significantly improved production efficiency and product quality. For instance, Boyite Smart Home, a local company, has developed an AI-powered full-chain model that includes intelligent quality inspection and an efficient trading platform, thereby boosting the overall operational efficiency of the industrial chain. From January to August of this year, designated-size wood industry enterprises in Gangnan District generated a total output value of 13.52 billion yuan, an 8.8% year-on-year increase. Cumulative sales reached 10.9 billion yuan, a 7.3% year-on-year increase. From January to July, sales of manufactured wood panels amounted to 6.545 million cubic meters, up 17.8% year-on-year.
Tao Jianquan, Secretary of the CPC Gangnan District Committee, noted that the district is currently pushing forward with the construction of the “one park with multiple zones” model to a high standard, focusing on building industrial carriers such as Jiangnan Industrial Park and Suwan New District with customized furniture as the core. It aims to establish a high-end green home furnishing industry demonstration cluster based in South China and extending to ASEAN, steadily working toward the goal of “using good panels to create good homes” and contributing to the regional economy and the modernization of the forestry industry.
