Health AI can address questions about symptoms and medications, clarify lab results and medical records, and assist with prescription renewal management. It also enables appointment booking and connects users to One Medical providers through messaging, video calls, or in-person visits.
Users may grant the assistant permission to access their personal health data—such as clinical notes, diagnoses, and lab results—via the Health Information Exchange. It can also retrieve relevant Amazon purchase history, including items like blood pressure monitors or vitamins.
Prime Members Get Extra Perks
Qualifying U.S. Prime members are entitled to up to five complimentary direct-message care visits with a One Medical provider, covering over 30 conditions. These include cold and flu, UTIs, allergies, acid reflux, erectile dysfunction, and skincare. Amazon estimates this benefit at up to $145.
These visits may be shared with household members via Amazon Family. Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access members are also eligible.
Beyond the introductory offer, provider visits cost $29 each via One Medical’s Pay-per-visit option. A full One Medical membership costs $99 annually for Prime members, a discount from the standard $199 price.
How It Works Under the Hood
Health AI operates on Amazon Bedrock. It is designed as a multi-agent system: a core agent manages patient conversations, while sub-agents handle specific tasks such as prescription management or appointment scheduling. Auditor and sentinel agents monitor conversations in real time and may escalate to human providers when necessary.
Amazon stated it co-developed the tool alongside clinical leaders at One Medical. Prior to launch, the clinical team tested it across a broad range of synthetic conversations focused on safety, emergency response, and compliance. The company notes that Health AI must meet or exceed clinician-level performance on safety-critical decisions prior to its release.
All interactions take place in a HIPAA-compliant environment. Amazon stated it does not use protected health information for general advertising purposes nor sell customer data.
The assistant is not intended to diagnose conditions or create treatment plans independently. If a condition is complex or requires professional input, it links users to a healthcare provider.
Amazon One Medical currently collaborates with Rush University System for Health and Cleveland Clinic to facilitate specialty care referrals.
Health AI initially launched in January 2026 exclusively for One Medical members, and received positive feedback from both patients and providers, per Amazon.
