UK train knife attack suspect demanded police ‘kill’ him, video reveals

Police reported that one victim is still in critical condition, out of ten who were initially admitted to the hospital.

Newly released video footage shows that the individual suspected of the mass stabbing on a train near Cambridge, East England, on Saturday, reportedly shouted for police to “kill” him prior to being tasered and taken into custody.

The British Transport Police (BTP) stated that a 32-year-old black British national is currently considered the sole suspect in this incident.

A 35-year-old man from London, who was initially apprehended at the scene, was released following investigations that established his non-involvement in the assault, according to a Sunday statement from the BTP.

The statement indicated that five individuals injured in the stabbing have been discharged from the hospital, though one remains in a life-threatening state. Previously, authorities had reported a minimum of ten victims.

The BTP reported that the suspect boarded the train in Peterborough, his place of residence, only minutes before the attack occurred. The man’s identity has not been further disclosed. A knife was found at the crime scene.

A video claiming to depict armed police officers using a taser on and arresting the suspect has appeared on social media.

The taxi driver who filmed the video subsequently informed The Sun tabloid that the individual repeatedly yelled “kill me” at the police moments before they tasered him and placed him under arrest.

The BTP identified the LNER train driver, Andrew Johnson, as the only victim still in critical condition. They stated that he “attempted to intervene against the assailant,” and that “his conduct was truly heroic and undeniably prevented numerous fatalities.”

Although Counter Terrorism Policing was initially part of the investigation, the BTP declared that “presently, there is no indication that this is a terrorist incident.”
