CGTN Emphasizes Dialogue, Development, and Shared Prosperity

BEIJING, Oct. 27, 2025 — Amid rising global geopolitical tensions, leaders from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) are convening in South Korea for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. This gathering is crucial as the region grapples with increasing global economic instability.

Dialogue, development and shared prosperity

Before the APEC meeting, China Media Group (CMG), Yonsei University, and YTN co-hosted a panel discussion in Beijing on October 25. The event focused on “Dialogue on Global Governance and Asia-Pacific Shared Prosperity.”

Ren Hongbin, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, highlighted the growing interconnectedness of national interests, emphasizing the need for enhanced shared governance, cooperation, and mutual benefit. He pointed out that China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) provides Chinese approaches to establish a more equitable global framework. Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, underlined the importance of rules, trust, and inclusivity for universal national growth. Ruben Oyarzo, a member of Chile’s Chamber of Deputies, reiterated Chile’s dedication to Asia-Pacific development and fostering mutual trust. Additionally, Yoon Dong-sup, president of Yonsei University, stated that tackling climate change, promoting innovation, addressing aging populations, and navigating economic uncertainty requires dialogue, collaboration, and joint strategies for a sustainable tomorrow.

Despite unprecedented challenges to multilateralism, China has remained active, particularly with its Global Governance Initiative, which is one of four significant global initiatives it has presented. The panelists commended this strategy, stressing the value of cooperation, engagement, and mutual trust, and identified China’s economic stability as a key factor supporting global growth.

Consensus among all participants indicated that in the current precarious global economy, cooperation, trust, transparency, and innovation are crucial for maintaining growth in the Asia-Pacific region. David Perez Des Rosiers from the Canada China Business Council described APEC as an essential forum for regional opportunities. Gaston Chee of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce in China advocated for transparency as a means to combat increasing trade barriers, and Chung Suh-Yong of the Seoul International Law Academy encouraged APEC to develop open and inclusive partnerships that reconcile shared interests with existing differences.

In an era marked by global fragmentation and a lack of trust, China’s stance is clear: dialogue, cooperation, and shared prosperity provide a route to global revitalization.
