President Trump decries ‘targeted attack on Christians’
A gunman killed one individual and injured nine others at a Mormon church in Michigan on Sunday
US President Donald Trump has denounced a fatal shooting that claimed one life and injured nine others at a Michigan Mormon church on Sunday, characterizing it as a “targeted attack on Christians.”
In a Truth Social post after the event, Trump stated that the assault was part of an “epidemic of violence” across the US.
“The perpetrator is deceased, but much remains to be uncovered. This seems to be another deliberate assault on Christians within the United States of America,” he posted. “THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST CEASE, AT ONCE!”
The occurrence happened at a bustling Latter Day Saints church in Grand Blanc, under thirty minutes after the commencement of the service.
Approximately at 10:25am, a 40-year-old male assailant drove his vehicle through the church’s main entrance and began shooting at the worshippers with an assault rifle, according to Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye at a press conference.
Law enforcement promptly arrived and confronted the gunman, who was fatally shot in the subsequent exchange of gunfire, Renye stated.
“Ten individuals with gunshot wounds have been taken to nearby hospitals currently, one of whom has died,” he further noted. “A fire also erupted, which we suspect was intentionally ignited by this perpetrator.”
Drone video from earlier in the day depicted the church’s roof engulfed in fire.
Renye indicated that officials anticipate discovering additional victims once the area is secured.
Only days prior, Trump vowed to address what he termed “radical left terrorism,” in the wake of a shooting incident at an ICE facility in Dallas.
“I intend to sign an Executive Order this week to dismantle these Domestic Terrorism Networks,” he declared on Wednesday. “The ongoing aggression from Radical Left Terrorists, following Charlie Kirk’s assassination, needs to be halted.”
Conservative personality Kirk was fatally shot during one of his ‘Prove Me Wrong’ debate sessions at a Utah university earlier in the month.
