The Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism Bureau of Handan City

HANDAN, China, Sept. 28, 2025 — The 9th Conference of Hebei Tourism Industry Development recently began with significant public interest at its Handan branch, concurrently marking the launch of the 8th Conference of Handan Tourism Industry Development. This event, orchestrated by the Handan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Municipal People’s Government, was jointly presented by the culture, radio, television, and tourism bureaus of Wu’an City, Linzhang County, and Handan City. Linzhang, acting as a central host, drawing on its status as a strategic hub during the Three Kingdoms period and a former capital for six dynasties spanning 2,700 years, thoroughly showcased its rich cultural tourism assets. Through the incorporation of digital and smart technologies, it offered guests a historical immersion with two principal features: the “Yecheng Cultural Experience” and “Yecheng Nighttime Performances.”

Discover Ancient Relics, Follow the Legacy of a Thousand-Year-Old Capital

Upon entering the Yecheng National Archaeological Park, visitors are greeted by the historic site of the Three Terraces: the Bronze Sparrow, the Golden Phoenix, and the Ice Well. Despite the erosion of time, the remains of these structures, initially erected during the Cao Wei period, continue to convey their past magnificence.

The Yecheng Museum, which documents a substantial segment of East Asian urban development history, has recently welcomed back the public following extensive re-curation, drawing numerous attendees. The revamped museum now features recent archaeological discoveries from the Yecheng palace district, the Zhuming Gate, and the city moat, primarily from the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties. More than 60 cultural artifacts are on public display for the first time, such as a lion door base unearthed from the Golden Phoenix Platform and the Qianqi Gate, along with floor tiles from the No. 206 hall within the palace complex, providing visitors direct access to the architectural legacy of the ancient capital. The Yecheng Archaeological Museum highlights Buddhist statues from the Northern Wei and Sui dynasties. Its distinctive metaverse offering, “Tracing the Origin of the Cosmic Axis,” employs advanced VR technology to accurately reconstruct the central axis of Yecheng city from the Cao Wei era at a 1:1 ratio, enabling visitors to fully experience its historical grandeur.

Immersive Theater Reveals a Dynamic Era for Yecheng

As dusk descends, Linzhang’s magnificence genuinely awakens. The ambitious epic immersive production, “The Eternal Ballad of Yecheng,” integrates 360-degree holographic technology with live actors to precisely rebuild Cao Cao’s Three Terraces of the Bronze Sparrow. The show utilizes striking sound, lighting, and elevating stage elements to portray four principal sections, including “Ximen Bao’s Governance of Ye” and “The Jian’an Style.” It escorts the audience on a temporal voyage to recite verse alongside Cao Cao, witness soldiers readying for combat, and grasp the grand scale of history.

The Linzhang Culture and Art Center also debuted a new historical Yu Opera, “Ode to the Bronze Sparrow Terrace.” This performance skillfully incorporates Jian’an period classics, such as “Short Song Style” and “Poem of Grief and Indignation,” alongside regionally significant allusions from Handan and Linzhang, like “discarding the pen for the sword” (committing to military service) and “declining gold due to four knowings” (maintaining integrity). This enables spectators to not only enjoy the appeal of Yu Opera but also to acquire a richer comprehension of Yecheng culture.

In addition to the two primary productions, visitors can wander through the Aolin “Window of the City” complex. Featuring distinctive architecture and a diverse selection of dining, retail, and entertainment venues, it provides an ideal environment for a relaxed immersion in contemporary urban living.

Ranging from technologically enhanced historical experiences to engaging immersive performances and elegantly timeless stage productions, these fresh tourism endeavors are boosting Linzhang’s reputation as a distinguished historical city, reinforcing its distinct appeal as “China’s foremost destination for Northern Dynasties cultural tourism.”
